Melvin Charles Smith, 66, passed away March 9, 1982 at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. following a lengthy illness  He was born on April 8, 1915 at Montpelier to Harry L. and Clara Bienz Smith.  He married Gloria Cibulka.  He was a member of the LDS Church.  He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years as a locomotive engineer and retired in November of 1975.  He was a member of the Locomotive Engineer's Union.  He was an avid sportsman particularly enjoying fishing, hunting and golf.  Survivors include his wife, two daughters and one grandchild.  Graveside service will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
