Merlyn Kunz Jensen, of Montpelier, our dearly loved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away February 12, 2011, in North Ogden, Utah, of natural causes at the age of 90. She was born September 4, 1920, in Bern, Idaho, the daughter of Alvin Nephi and Amy Matilda Kunz. She had many fond and cherished memories of her childhood in Bern with her parents, brothers, grandparents and extended family. Merlyn graduated from Montpelier High School and received her nurse's training at the LDS Hospital, University of Utah Nursing Program in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Merlyn would then devote the next 59 years of her life to nursing and caring for the Bear Lake community in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. She worked as a nurse her entire adult life, completing her final shift at the age of 79.
Merlyn married Grant W. Jensen on May 9, 1942. They were blessed with three children, Ronald G. (Christin), Fish Haven, Mary Lynn (Kelly), North Salt Lake, Marsha Ann, Logan. She enjoyed her five grandchildren (Clark Jensen, Eric Jensen, Maria Matthews Richards, Bradford Matthews and Teresa Matthews Erickson) and 19 great-grandchildren.
Merlyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many callings. In her later years, she enjoyed participating in the LDS Family Search Extraction program, and serving regularly in the Logan LDS Temple.
Merlyn was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Jensen, her parents, Alvin and Amy Kunz, and her brothers, Foster M., DeVirl (Bud), Junior and LaMont Kunz. One brother survives, Kenneth K. Kunz, Salt Lake City, Utah. How happy we are for her joyous reunion with her family.
Merlyn leaves behind a legacy of compassion, hard work, service, sacrifice, and love. Merlyn touched many lives as mother, grandmother, friend and nurse. Her home was warm, welcoming and inviting, rich with smells of freshly baked goods and never-ending, delicious food. We love you so very much. You will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier LDS Third Ward Chapel, 340 North Sixth Street. Interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
