(1973) For a short period after leaving Pelier High School, I was employed by Safeway Stores in Montpelier, then after three years of running my legs off there, I decided to get into the painting business. I spent a few months with Wendell Stout in this endeavor, finally I decided to go to Salt Lake to seek my fortune. Here I went to work for Salt Lake Hardware Co. where I worked for 27 years, in Elko, Nevada; Jerome, Idaho; and finally in Salt Lake. A subsidiary company was formed for the express purpose of distributing Toro mowers to 6 western states, and I had an opportunity to take this company and run it. That was 10 years ago, and I am still attached there in the capacity of Vice-President and Secretary.

While employed at The Salt Lake Hardware Co. I met a delightful young lady who resisted my advances for more than four years before she decided the only way to get rid of me was to marry me! Her name was Fern Jensen, and as a result of us both being of Danish descent, we have had many laughs over our preference for things, Danish. We have three children, 2 girls and one boy. The girls are married, and our boy will graduate from Highland High School in Salt Lake in 1974. We have three grandchildren, and are expecting two more in the very near future.

My hobbies are Barbecue cooking, Golf, Tennis, and my family. My wife and I have been in most of the states of the Union except for the five Northeastern states, Hawaii and Alaska. We fully intend to take care of the Hawaii trip come next January. My next love has to be working in the LDS Church, which occupies much of my time.

Our travels have been a combination of air and automobile, our latest outing having been a fine trip to the Bahamas last February. We are also planning a short visit to Minneapolis, Minn. very soon.

One final note, I became addicted to Snowmobiling about six years ago, and this certainly makes the winters worthwhile. I debated at some length about taking up skiing, hut decided that should I meet a tree while descending one of the slopes on the boards, that I would come out a poor second on the encounter, so gave up that idea. I first thought that Snowmobiling would he much easier than Skiing, hut found out that it is one of the most strenuous sports available! The first outing of the year invariably produces more aches and pains than Carter has Liver pills! But, as the season progresses it is a most wonderful way of enjoying winter!

I am in good health and hope that I never want to retire - - -
