LaVoy Lewis - Class of 1949

LaVoy R. Lewis, 66, passed away suddenly on Saturday 8 March 1997 in Montpelier, ID from an apparent heart failure. He was born 7 May 1930 in Dingle, ID to Joseph Benjamin and Lottie Eugene Booth Lewis.  He married Kay Sparks 23 April 1965 in Cokeville, WY.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple 11 Oct 1978. 

LaVoy held many jobs including meat cutter, fireman on the railroad, body and fender man and for the past 31 years has sold cars for Tapper Motors.  His first love was taking dented cars and making them like new.  He also loved camping, fishing, boating and car races. 

He was an active member of the LDS Church, was a High Priest, and held many positions in the church.  At the time of his death he was stake clerk in the Montpelier Idaho South Stake, a position he held for the past 18 years. 

He was the Montpelier City Fire Chief for many years and was instrumental in organizing the local and state search and rescue groups and sheriff’s rescue patrol.  He was instrumental in organizing the local Jaycees and served as a national JCI Senator.  He had 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
