Carl Nield - Class of 1957

MONTPELIER, ID — Carl William Nield, 64, passed away suddenly on December 27, 2002, at his business in Montpelier. He was born January 17, 1938, in Montpelier, Idaho, to William Edward and Viola Laughter Nield. He was the sixth of ten children. He attended Montpelier High School and later proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He had good memories of his service in Japan. He married his sweetheart, Bonnie Jeanne Sorenson, on July 28, 1961, in Ovid, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Carl had worked in many occupations, including gravel and excavation, trucking, and as a diesel mechanic before starting his own repair shop, 3 States Repair, in 1990. Carl was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in several different callings.

His greatest joy was his family, whom he loved very much. Carl is survived by his wife, Bonnie; six children, Bill (Holly) Nield, Debra (LaMont) Pack, Todd (Lezlie) Nield, Jason (Mai) Nield, Cameron (Frank) Righetti, and Justin Nield, currently serving an LDS mission in Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, Alexis, Jessica, Cody, Barrett, Carly, Lacy, Lynn, Troy, Chelsie, Treyton, Derrick, Amanda, Hailey, Taylor, and Noelle. Also surviving are two brothers, Kenneth (Elva) Nield, Tom (Karen) Nield; and five sisters, Gloria Shannon, Carol Erickson, Lannette (Merl) Roberts, Belva (Allen) Bagley, and Maxine (Chris) Henderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Max and Terry.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 31, at 2:00 p.m., in the Montpelier Stake Center. Burial will be in the Ovid Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
