Lagrande Stephens - Class of 1930

Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, John LaGrande Stephens, 93, of Salt Lake City, passed away peacefully at his home January 7, 2005 of causes incident to age.Born in Montpelier, Idaho to John Edwin and Louisa Perkins. LaGrande was the oldest son and second child of nine. 

He worked and played hard on the family ranch, graduated from Montpelier High, and attended BYU until being called on an LDS mission to the British Isles. Upon returning to Salt Lake, he met his sweetheart Grace Tolman who he married in 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II. He was an accountant for construction companies, helping build Snowbird Resort and the Salt Palace Convention Center. He was a people person, loved walking and music. 

He is survived by his wife Grace, daughter Diane and her husband Jim Hoggan, son John Tolman Stephens, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, his sister Shirley Wheatley, brothers Charles Culver and Elmo Sterling. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth, brothers Earl Edwin, Neldon Dean, Glen Sherman and Roger Maxwell. Graveside services will be Tuesday, Jan. 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 Highland Dr.
