In Memory

Harold Rasmussen - Class of 1930

Harold E Rasmussen, 86, our father and grandfather departed from this life on Friday morning February 26,1999 in Phillipsburg, Montana knowing he would be reunited with his life-long wife and companion Effie Mae to continue their wondrous adventure.  Harold was born August 25, 1912 in Georgetown to James and Mary Barkdull Rasmussen, the second of 12 children.  In his youth he spent his summers on his grandparents ranch in Rasmussen Valley fishing and having fun.  He went to school in Georgetown and Montpelier.  As a young fellow he began his apprenticeship as a baker.  He learned his strong work ethic as a very young man and this continued throughout his entire life.  He met his future bride, Effie Mae Holmes who lived next door.  They courted and were married in 1935.  To this union were born three children.  In June of 1941 they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.  While they looked to the future of caring for their new family Harold and Effie chose to move to Helena, Montana.  He continued his chosen profession as a baker.  Many happy memories including camping and fishing trips were made while living in Helena. True to their quest for a better life Harold and Effie opened their own bakery.  He became famous for his daily fresh baked goods and used his artistic talents as a cake decorator. Funeral services were held March 6 at the Montpelier First Ward Chapel.  Burial was in the Bennington Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
