Melvin Kunz - Class of 1945

MONTPELIER - Melvin Farrell Kunz, 76, died at his home at 270 Woodlawn on Monday, June 16, 2003, in Montpelier, Idaho.

He was born April 8, 1927, at Bern, Idaho, to Eliza Asenneth Bacon and Oneal Rudger Kunz. He spent most of his early years growing up in Bern, and attending the first to eighth grades of school. He graduated from Montpelier High School.

On Feb. 1, 1947, he married Velda Smith in Montpelier, Idaho, and in 1950, they moved to California.

He worked for Lockheed Plant, for Interstate Bakery and later he bought a service station, which he sold when he moved to Bullhead, Arizona. In 1979, they moved back to Montpelier, Idaho, where he got a job with the Bear Lake County Road and Bridge Department, and he worked there until he retired in 1994.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Velda, of Montpelier; one son, Melvin Kent (Carol Lang) Kunz of LaCrescenta, Calif.; one daughter, Jacquelyn (Robert) Buchmiller of Palmdale, Calif.; four grandchildren, Shanne Michael (Shelly) Kunz, Eric Steven (Jennefer) Kunz, Cecilia Danell Buchmiller (Terry) Olsen, Katrina Denice (Sam) Blackwell, all of California; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters and one brother, Edith (Bob) Rasmussen, Elva (Kenneth) Nield, Wayne (Shirley) Kunz and Virginia Price, all of Montpelier, and Karen (Dan) Phillips of Blackfoot, Idaho; one brother-in-law, Dale Northup, who just moved here from California; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Kunz of Montpelier. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Vernal DeOrr Kunz and one sister, Oma Northup.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m., in the Montpelier Fourth Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery, with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
