Bob Danks - Class of 1946

MONTPELIER, Idaho — Robert A. Danks, 78, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2006. in his hometown of Montpelier. He leaves behind his wife Lori, three children, Gary Danks, Shauna (Brian) Julian, DeAnn (Kent) Switzer, and a sister, Lois Danks. He was preceded in death by his first wife. Donna Danks , and a son Val Dean Danks. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Bob was born Dec. 29, 1927, in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, but has lived the majority of his life in Montpelier. He served four years in the US Navy as a photographer. After a brief time working as a photographer in Montpelier, he took a job as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 25 years.

He eventually taught himself to become a licensed electrician and quickly earned the reputation of being the most skilled, honest and dependable electrical contractor in the Bear Lake Valley. Many aspiring electricians later apprenticed under his tutelage.

He was active in the community and was a founding member of the Search and Rescue and EMT organizations in Bear Lake.

Bob and his wife, Lori, enjoyed traveling on their motorcycle and exploring new places together. He also enjoyed camping, hunting and other outdoor activities provided by the valley. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 18, at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Stake Center, 5th Ward Chapel. The interment will be in the Montpelier Cemetery.
