Nedra Rasmussen (Welch) - Class of 1947

Mona Nedra Rasmussen Welch, 79, left us Jan. 18, 2009, to join her eternal companion. She was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Bloomington, Idaho, to Leo Ephraim and Lamona Bateman Rasmussen. She was raised in Dingle, Idaho, and graduated from Montpelier High School. She moved to Salt Lake City to go to Stevens Henegar Business College where she fell in love with Ray L. Welch. They were married in the Logan LDS Temple on May 22, 1948. They spent 58 years together before he passed away in July of 2006. They lived in Centerville, Utah; Onatario, Ore.; Logan, Utah; and Phoenix, Ariz. She moved to Woods Cross after Ray died. They made many wonderful friends wherever they lived.

They had three children whom Nedra spent her lifetime nurturing, loving and caring about. She was a true homemaker in every sense of the word. She built a beautiful home and taught her children the things they needed to succeed in life. In return, they cared for and nurtured her in her time of need.

She fought a valiant battle with thyroid cancer for over 25 years and now is free. She leaves behind a legacy of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved and respected her. Her children are: Judy (Terrell) Bird; John (Kathy) Welch; and Randy (Phyllis, deceased) Welch. She had 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with two more coming soon. She has one sister, Ann Shaughnessey, and one brother, Rex Rasmussen.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at the Woods Cross 6th Ward Chapel, 1500 S. 800 West. Interment is in Bountiful City Cemetery.
