Cecil Taylor (Bartek) - Class of 1966

Cecil Taylor Bartek, daughter of Jerry and Ruth Taylor, former owners of The News-Examiner, former Montpelier resident and recent resident of Lake Oswego, Oregon, died at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, Ore. on Aug. 10, 2010, due to long-term complications from surgery. She was 62.

Memorial Services were held on Aug. 16 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lander, Wyo. Cecil was born August 2, 1948 in Soda Springs to Ruth and Jerry Taylor of Montpelier.

Cecil was extremely active in local activities including band in which she was a member of the Idaho State band in music festivals and was also involved with Pepettes, National Honor Society and a number of other formal and informal groups. After graduation from Montpelier High School, Cecil attended Scripps College in Claremont, Calif and thereafter transferred to the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1970.

After spending some time in the Bay Area, she briefly moved to Jackson, Wyoming, where she met her future husband, Christopher Bartek. Cecil and Chris were married August 2, 1975, in Montpelier, Idaho.

Cecil obtained a Bachelor's degree in nursing in 1977 from the University of Utah and was employed there after graduation for a time. In 1982, Cecil and her family moved to Lander, and she worked for many years at the Lander Valley Medical Center and with the WIC program. Cecil and Chris moved to Lake Oswego in 2005. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, gardening, animals, traveling and playing Scrabble.

Cecil was known as a kind, friendly, and deeply caring person, who always put others' well-being ahead of her own. Survivors include her husband, Chris, her children, Erin Bartek and Matthew Bartek, and her brother, Lance Taylor. She will be dearly missed.
