In Memory

Robert Galloway - Class of 1960

Robert "Bob" Parley Galloway, 75, of Ashton, passed away peacefully Jan. 14, 2018, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 4, 1942, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Richard Irvine and Fern Kunz Galloway, the second of eight children. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Bern, Idaho, and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1960.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an honorable mission in the Texas Mission. He had a testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, and served and helped many people during his life. He felt home teaching was important and served faithfully in this calling until no longer able.

He married Donna Rae Barton on Sept. 10, 1965, in Kaysville, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 20, 1974. This union was blessed with two children, a daughter Donetta and a son Lyle. Bob and Donna would spend 52 years together.

Robert was a very hard worker. He worked for Union Pacific as a switchman-brakeman for a number of years. He enjoyed this job until he lost the sight in one eye and was unable to work anymore. He had a firewood business and loved working in the timber and outdoors. He taught his children the value of hard work. He was a talented mechanic and was always up for a challenge. He could solve most any problem.

He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed playing checkers, marbles and dominoes with his grandchildren. He loved the "little people." He was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved watching them grow. They were his greatest treasure and joy in life. In his younger days, he loved to water-ski and go boating.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Ashton; children, Donetta (Clair) Jackson, of Williston, North Dakota, and Lyle (Shauna) Galloway, of Ashton; siblings, Richard (Myrna) Galloway and Ronald (JoAnn) Galloway, of Afton, Wyoming; Ralph (Elaine) Galloway, of Bern; Rodney Galloway, of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Karla (Richard) Webb, of Salt Lake City; and Arline (Dana) Devlin, of Boise; a brother-in-law, Weldon Clark, of Freedom, Wyoming; and his grandchildren, Derek (Katie) Jackson, Devin (Kaylynn) Jackson, Carlene (Blake) Sewell, Dillon (Colleen) Galloway, Courteney (Colter) Cannon, Brittaney (Charlie) Underwood, Paxston (Kegan) Hughes, Megan (Hayden) Ott and Austin Galloway. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
