In Memory

Margo Kunz (Nate) - Class of 1959

Margo Lynn Kunz Nate passed away at the age of 80 holding her sweetheart’s hand and surrounded by her family, on March 6, 2022, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. She was born on September 16, 1941, in Soda Springs, Idaho to Mary Mildred and LaVar K. Hoff. She was adopted at an early age by Vernal DeOrr Kunz, and she was his princess. Margo married her sweetheart, Larry Oren Nate on June 24, 1960.

Larry and Margo owned Acapulco 71 Imports in Sugarhouse, Utah for 15 years. Margo also had her own successful businesses in Act 2 Jewelry and Tupperware. Margo additionally worked as an office manager for doctors’ offices, where she definitely ran the show!

She was a proud hockey and figure skating mom to thousands of boys and girls. She was the founder and manager of the Utah Stars Elite High School Hockey Team and the Great Western Showcase, one of the largest tournaments in the nation. She spent time as the director of Utah High School Hockey, and the manager of Brighton High School Hockey. She also managed the Chicago Showcase – Team Northwest for 20 years.

Margo was a national figure skating judge. She served many leadership positions in the Utah Figure Skating Club. But most of all she was the best, and loudest, cheerleader for every kid on the ice, whether it was hockey or figure skating. She later went on to her favorite cheerleading assignment, cheering for her grandkids in soccer, swimming, water skiing, and music.

Margo had a beautiful voice. She always had music playing and she knew every word to the songs. Even when Alzheimer’s and Dementia took her memory, it was never able to steal her music. She and Larry were a part of “The Gleeful Choir,” a beautiful group consisting of singers with Alzheimer’s and Dementia and their caregivers. A heartfelt “Thank You” to Emily Christensen, Director, and the many others who make this group possible.

The family would also like to thank Tender Care Hospice for the loving care they gave to our sweet Margo Lynn, especially Chelsea, Karen, and Savannah. We would also like to thank Judy Otley for going above and beyond in keeping Margo’s hair pristine. That is something she was known for – never having a hair out of place.

Margo is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Larry Oren Nate, Children: Jeff (Tani), Janet (Robert), Todd (Nikki). Grandchildren: Brooke (Luis), Lexi, Rian, Bailey, Cami, Paisley, Audrie, Amelia, and Dexter. Brothers: Lonnie (Felicia), Larry (Penny), Rick (Jill), Doyle (Kathy), and Dwight. Her sister Cathey, many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews. Also, her “babies” Jazee and Fergie. Many people have said that they want to “come back as one of Margo’s dogs”!

Margo is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brothers: DeOrr, Clair, and David, and her best friend Anna Mirada.
