In Memory

Billy Williams - Class of 1963

Wilford (Bill) M. Williams was 78 when he passed away at his home in Grace, ID on December 26, 2023.  Bill was born in Soda Springs, ID to Matthew and Leola Williams.  He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1963.  He joined the Navy and proudly served his country from 1965-1969.

He was trained and skilled as a sonar technician. He was stationed on the USS Cogswell and the USS Catfish. He spent time overseas during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Vietnam Service Medal as well as a National Defense Service Medal.  After an honorable discharge in 1969, he returned to civilian life and pursued a career as an electrician. He worked on F-16’s and F-4’s at Hill Air Force Base for nearly 40 years until his retirement in 2007.

Bill enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing cards, visiting family and shopping.  He was married and divorced twice, but had the pleasure of raising two stepsons, which gave him much joy as he did not have children of his own.  “Uncle Bill” was loved by the many children and grandchildren of his sister VerJean.  He truly enjoyed spending time with his family.  Sadly, after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2015, it was difficult to see his health decline over the years.  VerJean did her best to care for him during that time, as she had always looked out for him after their mother passed when they were young.  When Bill became too much for VerJean to care for, Lonnie Turner (nephew) stepped in and took on the role of full-time caregiver. The rest of the family would like to thank Lonnie for the wonderful care and companionship of Bill until he was called home.

Wilford was greeted in death by his mother and father Leola and Matthew Williams, his beloved sister VerJean (Dennis Turner), grandpa and grandma Hayes, Aunt LaRee (Uncle Harvey Kunz), nephew Vance Turner and so many others to welcome him with open arms.  He is survived by nieces and nephews, Karl Kunz, Steven (Jeri) Kunz, Greg (Cindy) Kunz, Luana Kunz, Denise (Kevin) Forsberg, Virginia Murphy, Lorna (Fred) Zundel, Lonnie Turner and the family of Vance Turner, who assisted with Bill’s daily care.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Georgetown, ID from 11:00 - 11:45am, followed by a funeral service at noon.  Bill will be laid to rest in the Georgetown Cemetery.
