Marcia Bartschi (Wallentine) - Class of 1970

Marcia Rae Bartschi Wallentine passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Marcia was born on May 15, 1952, in Montpelier, Idaho, the oldest child of Glenn and LaRae Bartschi. As a very young girl, Marcia developed her lifelong love of horses as she spent as much time as possible riding them at her grandpa and Grandma Bartschi’s farm in Georgetown, Idaho. She was riding horses almost before she was able to walk. She was an avid lover of all animals. Marcia attended school in Montpelier, Idaho, and graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1970. She was active in the Rodeo Club, Ski Club, Pep Club and was an FFA Sweetheart.

Growing up, Marcia enjoyed participating in the 4-H horse and the 4-H steer programs. She loved swimming and worked as a lifeguard at the family’s pool at the Michelle Motel. She also worked at Neeley’s Arctic Circle and helped with her family’s youth program at the Bear Lake Valley Guest Ranch in Stauffer Canyon. She enjoyed training and showing her horses at the county fairs, where she won many awards and accolades. She loved participating in barrel racing at several rodeos around the area. Marcia was selected to be the Rodeo Queen for both the Bear Lake Rangers and the Bear Lake County Fair and Rodeo. Besides rodeo, Marcia enjoyed bowling, skiing, reading, arts, and crafts, and made the best fudge around. Everyone looked forward to getting some of her fudge at Christmastime. She was a sharpshooter and enjoyed hunting. She served on the Bear Lake County Fair Board for many years.

Marcia married Wynn Wallentine, and they made their home in Montpelier. To the marriage they added two daughters, Tasja, and Jessica.  Together they spent time enjoying cutter racing in the winters and horse racing in the summers. Marcia and Wynn were later divorced.

Marcia was employed at Tri-State Bank in Montpelier. She was a 4-H Horse Club leader for many years where she helped others also develop their love of horses. She owned and operated her own dog trimming business and went on to work in different capacities on the pipeline in North Dakota. After returning to Bear Lake, Marcia worked at Northern Title Company.

Marcia continued her life journey with her partner, Max Bunderson. They resided in Paris, Idaho where they enjoyed farming and ranching together. Last year, they retired and relocated just outside of Salmon, Idaho.

Marcia is survived by her partner, Max Bunderson, daughters Tasja (Shawn) Lloyd, Jessica (Lynn) Hill, her brother Hal Bartschi, sisters Michelle (Paul) Nelson, Tammy (Eric) Walker, her five grandchildren Jimi Lloyd, Rhett Lloyd, Paisley Lloyd, Oaklee Lloyd, Trevor Hill and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and LaRae Bartschi.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Paris Stake Center. A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary and again prior to the services from 9:00-10:45 a.m. Interment will be held in the Bloomington Cemetery.
