In Memory

Elizabeth Tueller (Olsen) - Class of 1943

Salt Lake City, UT - Elizabeth Jane Tueller Olsen, age 92, passed away peacefully and returned home to our Heavenly Father on March 19, 2018. She was born April 25, 1925 in Montpelier, Idaho to Alvin Christian Tueller and Cecelia Ellen Dustin. She fulfilled an LDS Mission to the Texas-Louisiana Mission from 1950-1951. Beth married her eternal companion, Bryant Merril Olsen in the Salt Lake Temple on November 10, 1967.

World War II was going on and Beth decided to go to the big city of Salt Lake to find work. She was scared and wrote in her journal, "one evening I was very apprehensive and the words to a hymn came to my mind----"Fear not, I am with thee, and be not dismayed, for I am thy God and will still give thee aid". This song was surely a guide to her throughout her life. She began her work journey with the Union Pacific Railroad as a messenger. She lived at the YWCA with several girlfriends and they loved to go to the Coconut Grove Dance Hall. It was fun to dance with the young soldiers. She was called to the Texas/Louisiana Mission in January 1950. She got to attend the Mardi Gras King Rex Ball while there and she saw the Duke and Duchess of Windsor who also attended it. She lived at the Beehive House Annex and worked at the LDS Hospital as a receptionist when she returned from her mission. Later she worked as a secretary for Lamont Toronto who was the Secretary of State for Utah. After her marriage and the adoption of their two boys Kirk and Kyle, they lived in Mt. Pleasant, Utah for a short while. When they moved back to Salt Lake she owned her own cookie shop, "Beth's Cookie Jar". She was always known throughout the family and many others for her delicious cookies. The hamburger cookie and the ginger chews were a couple of the favorites. Beth was a kind and loving woman and touched the lives of her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was a great example for all to follow.

Beth loved the Lord. She had a deep knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the ability to teach its principles without judgement. Her grandchildren believed she had enough faith to move a mountain. She loved everyone and saw the good in others. She held many callings in the church, and the one she loved the most was teaching the M-Man and Gleaners, (LDS Youth up to 30 years of age). Beth was always teaching, formally or whenever you were with her. She had the best stories and they always seemed to have a moral attached.

Words written by a former boss to her husband before they married sum up the nature and beauty of this woman . . . "Beth Tueller is a perfect lady of the highest character. She is of a cheerful disposition and a joy to be around. She has a keen mind and a faith in man and God, which I envy." She will be remembered best for her Sunday dinners, famous cookies and her love of BYU Basketball and Football.

Beth is survived by her children Kirk Leander Olsen (Pam) and Bryant Kyle Olsen, her brother Larry (Julie) Tueller, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Loa Lee, Gayle, and brothers Bruce, Don, Scott, twins Ned & Ted, Glade, and grandson Ryan William Kelly.

A public viewing will be held March 30, 2018 at 11:00 am and funeral at 12:00 noon both at Camp Williams Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park 17111 South Camp Williams Road Bluffdale Utah 84065.
