Victor Kobe - Class of 1951

Victor R. Kobe passed away Saturday, August 29, 2009, at St. Luke's hospital with his family by his side.

Vic was born on September 2, 1933, in Redding, California, the youngest son of Anna and John Kobe. He grew up in Iron Mountain, a mining camp in northern California, with his two older brothers, John and Edward, where they shared many adventures and life was never dull.

Vic was a member of the Montpelier High School class of 1951 but a graduate of Pocatello High School and Idaho State University and served in the Korean War. He was a gifted athlete and was the 1953 NCAA 119-pound boxing champion, and was honored by Sports Illustrated as one of Idaho's top 50 best athletes.

On June 25, 1960 Vic, married Nancy Christensen in Pocatello, Idaho. They were blessed with two children, Michael and Caroline.

Vic provided many opportunities for his family and friends to enjoy life -   skiing, fishing, hunting, and golfing. He loved nothing more than a gathering with great food and wine with his friends and family.

Vic enjoyed his 30 years of employment with the J.R. Simplot's food division and treasured his friends and colleagues there.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Michael (Julie); daughter, Caroline (Dean) Brokaw; brother, John; and grandchildren, Kleo and Kora Kobe, Courtney (Steven) Tracy, Michael and Nick Brokaw.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Cathedral in Boise (Eighth and Hayes), Idaho, followed by a gathering for all family and friends at the Kobe residence. Private internment will be at Dry Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are by Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.
