Forrest D. Jacobsen passed away on his 88th birthday, April 5, 2018 in Montpelier, Idaho He was born April 5, 1930 in Montpelier, the son of Joseph Cowley and Ethel May Draney Jacobsen. He was the fifth of 7 children. He attended schools in Montpelier, graduating in 1948 from Montpelier High School where he was active in football, choir and student government. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force spending most of his 4 years of service stationed in Japan and Korea. At the time of his discharge he was a Staff Sargent for the Radio and Signal Corps. He was honorably discharged with a Good Conduct Medal, a Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Service Medal. He was very honored to serve his country.
Upon returning to Montpelier, he met his future wife, Virginia Lanore Swenson. They were married November 27, 1953 in Montpelier and were later sealed in the St George LDS Temple. They resided in St George for 4 years where their first two children were born; Debra Jacobsen and Jeffery Forrest (Faith) Jacobsen. After returning to Montpelier, five more children followed: Cynthia (Rick) Thomas, Jacquelyn (James) Case, Brett Glen (Dana) Jacobsen, Jon Bradley (Dana) Jacobsen, and Christopher Swenson Jacobsen. Forrest's greatest source of joy was his children and grandchildren.
He worked for Central Farmers Fertilizer Co and then Monsanto Corporation from which he retired after 37 years in 1993.
He enjoyed any time he could spend in the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening, and taking the family camping. He served as Scout Master for several years and recalled his time with the scouts as a wonderful experience.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a high priest, he spent countless hours in compassionate service to the sick, the elderly, the widows and virtually anyone in need. This service typifies his gentle kindness and love of his fellow man.
He is survived by Virginia, his wife of 64 years, six of his children, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and two great, great-grandchildren, one brother, Larry James (Ann) Jacobsen, a sister-in-law, Cathlene (Robert) Ellsworth and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Cowley and Ethel Jacobsen, five brothers, Marsel Cowley Jacobsen, Gene Samuel Jacobsen, Darrell Dean Jacobsen, Lorraine Fielding (Whitey) Jacobsen, one sister, Shirley (Lynn) Nate, and his beloved son, Christopher Swenson Jacobsen.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 10th at 1 pm at the Montpelier 5th Ward Chapel, 340 North 6th Street with a viewing at 11 am.
