In Memory

Sandra Smith (Leissring) - Class of 1962

Sandra Rae Leissring, 71, passed away on January 26, 2016, in Montpelier, Idaho. She was born October 5, 1944, to Howard and Kathleen Smith of Georgetown, Idaho. She was raised in Georgetown and attended schools in both Georgetown and Montpelier. She had many good memories of her childhood and made friendships that lasted a lifetime.

Sandra had a great love of books and reading that began as an infant; being read to in the lap of her loving mother, long before she could understand the words. It was a love she carried to her last days.

On August 22, 1962, she married Gary C. Leissring and was whisked away to Texas, where Gary completed his military enlistment after being overseas. It was a union that lasted 54 years. To this union were born two daughters, Rita M. Black and Tina R. Swa. Before settling permanently in Montpelier, Idaho, they lived in several different towns, where she always made a house a home. She was a wonderful and loving wife and mother, who was always there for her family.

Sandra worked several jobs during her lifetime, the most recent, working as a bookkeeper for Butch Cassidy’s Restaurant in Montpelier, Idaho.

Through adversity and health issues, she was a tower of strength, shown especially over the last several years, in taking care of her youngest daughter, Tina and being right by her side. She was a loving and caring mother to the end.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Howard Eugene Smith and Kathleen Alaire Hoff Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Gary C. Leissring, two daughters, Rita (Bret) Black and Tina Swa, three grandchildren, Brian (Hayley) Black, Sara Black (Mike Wright) and Taylor Swa, one great-grandchild, Kaysen Black and three siblings, Tim Smith, Becky Lowe and Ted Smith.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

A graveside service will be held February 1, 2016, in the Montpelier Cemetery, beginning at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Bear Lake County Library.

I have many memories of attending grade school with Sandra at Georgetown Elementary. I spoke to Sandra on one of my latest trips back to visit. We laughed and shared memories of family and friends.
