Gordon Miller - Class of 1941

Gordon Douglas Miller passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Oct. 30, 2004 in Thayne, Wyoming. Gordon was born August 4, 1920 in Tygee Valley, Idaho to John G. and Mary Ingles Miller. He spent his early years on the ranch and in the local schools. Gordon graduated from Montpelier High School and then went to work for the railroad.

Gordon married Laura Adean Parsons in October 1943 and was then drafted into the U.S. Navy. He was released from the Navy in the summer of 1945 and returned home to his wife and daughter, a child he had never met. After the war Gordon worked on the home ranch and other ranches in southeast Idaho.

In the early 1950s Gordon and Adean moved to Afton, where Gordon started a career with the police department. He retired in 1974 as Chief of Police. They then moved to Ogden, where he worked for Weber State College until 1986, when he retired.

Adean, the love of his life and wife of 54 years, passed away in March of 1998. Gordon was also preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters and his oldest son, Walter Douglas Miller. Gordon is survived by three children, Marilyn (Gary) White, Thayne; Danette (George) Ellison, Wright, WY; and Scott (Cindy) Miller of Kemmerer. He is also survived by six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
