In Memory

Marsha Humphrey (Brunett) - Class of 1965

Marsha Humphrey Brunett passed away Sept. 14, 2007, from ovarian cancer.

Marsha was born on March 30, 1947, to James and Esther (McWherter) Humphrey in Ontario, Ore. She spent her childhood attending school in Council, Idaho. Marsha moved with her family to Montpelier, Idaho, where she graduated from high school.

An industrious and adventurous young woman, Marsha enjoyed working and rock hunting at Little America, Wyo., during the summer and earning enough money to graduate with a bachelor's degree from Idaho State University. Her determination to help others led her to be one of the first round of volunteers for VISTA. VISTA sent her to South Carolina during the civil rights movement where she attempted to register young people to vote. VISTA gave Marsha the "travel bug." She found perfect employment to satiate the bug as a traveling photographer. She traveled from California to Montana, stopping in various department stores to capture sweet smiles of children. It was on one of these work assignments in Great Falls, that she was wooed by charming James (Jim) Brunett. Marsha put away her photography equipment and signed on to a lifelong commitment to Jim on March 3, 1977. That same year she also signed on to a long commitment to the State of Montana as a social worker. Marsha worked in Great Falls, Havre, Bozeman and Livingston as a social worker and social work supervisor in child and adult protection. Wherever Marsha worked, she left a cadre of admiring co-workers and clients. She retired in Sept. 2002 and pursued her desire to travel with her loving husband, Jim. They traveled throughout the South, West and Northwest exploring beaches, streams, deserts and mountains rock hunting. Marsha's quest for rocks did not diminish her love of flowers, so when she was not looking for rocks, she was admiring, planting and growing flowers. She also used these interests to landscape homes where she lived. Her home in Tucson is evidence of her talents in that area.

She will be greatly missed by those she touched with her quick wit and beautiful smile.

Survivors include her husband, Jim of Tucson, Ariz.; five stepchildren and numerous stepgrandchildren; her father, Jim Humphrey, and stepmother, Aloha of Idaho Falls, Idaho; siblings, Merilyn of Ocean View, Hawaii, Wendy of Idaho Falls, James (Bud) and wife, Pat, of Parkview, Ill.; three stepsiblings, Tana, Wade and Shaun; and a very special niece, Jessica Dunaway, of Rockmont, Ga. She is also survived by a clan of caring in-laws, Dolly Moeller, Gerry and Ellie Brunett, and Jim and Deanna Pressy, all of Tucson, Ariz.;several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.  At Marsha's request, no funeral services will be held. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church, 237 Northwater in Idaho Falls. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Carondelet Hospice, 630 N. Alvernon Way, Suite 361, Tucson, AZ 85711, would be greatly appreciated.
