Richard Beckwith - Class of 1936

Richard Harrison Beckwith, 44, died suddenly about 3 p. m., Friday, December 18, 1959, of a heart attack while on a short visit in Salt Lake City. A life long resident of Montpelier, he was born here March 1, 1916, the son of the late Edward Jay and Christina Rohner Beckwith. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1936.  He married Rose Bell Blair Osborn.  Mr. Beckwith had about 20 years' service as a brakeman and conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, B.of R. T., and King Solomon Lodge No. 27, A. F. & A. M. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Noel (Diane) Castleton of Montpelier as well as two sons, Kenneth Beckwith of Cheyenne and Keith Beckwith of Casper, Wyoming; and one brother, Douglas L. Beckwith of Montpeller. Services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Presbyterian Community Church with the Reverend G. Eldred Kelley officiating. Vocal selections were by Max Haddock, "Abide With Me", and "The Lord's Prayer", with Mrs. Lester Armatage, accompanist. Interment was in the Montpelier cemetery. The Matthews Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Montpelier City Cemetery.
