Irene Mouritsen (Johnson) - Class of 1940

Irene T Mouritsen Johnson, 87; of Grace passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at her home. 

Irene was born December 23, 1922 in Bedford, Wyoming the daughter of Irvin and Lula Thornock Mouritsen. 

She was raised and educated in Bennington, Idaho and graduated from Montpelier High School. 

Irene married Vernon Lucian Johnson on September 11, 1940 in Bennington, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Vernon passed away on April 18, 1994. 

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had served as den leader, primary teacher, MIA teacher, visiting teacher and also as a Temple Officiator. 

She cooked for the Grace School District lunch program. She also was a member of the Idaho Food Service. 

Irene enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking, camping and loved spending time with the family at the ranch. 

She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Richard V. and DeAun Johnson of Layton, UT; Roger and Tina Johnson of Corinne, UT; Gay and the late Spencer Panter of Ogden, UT; Jan and Rusty Cook of Soda Springs, ID. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and two brothers and two sisters, Leonard Mouritsen of Darby, MT; Roy Mouritsen of Salmon Arms, B.C. Canada; Ruth Allen of Grace, ID; Marie Rennaker of Creston, Alberta Canada. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Johnson, a daughter Joyce Smith, a son-in-law Spencer Panter and a brother LeGrand Mouritsen. 

Services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Noon at the Grace LDS Stake Center. The family will visit with friends on Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sims Funeral Home in Soda Springs andon Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Burial will be in the Grace Cemetery.
