Evelyn Tibbitts (Winterholler) - Class of 1938

Evelyn Tibbitts Winterholler 80, of Federal Way died July 14, 2000 at home following a courageous battle with cancer. Evelyn was born on May 3, 1920 in Montpelier, Idaho to George Samuel Tibbitts and Annie Lonore Brown. She attended the University of Wyoming where she met her husband Philip Winterholler. They were married June 23, 1946 after a four-year separation due to Philip's service in World War II. Graduating from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Education, Evelyn's first teaching job was in the small mining town of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She taught over 21 years in the Federal Way School District, including Lakota Junior High School, Mirror Lake Elementary and Olympic View Elementary Schools. She was revered by students and parents alike. Philip and Evelyn enjoyed a wonderful life together. They were husband and wife, loving sweethearts and the dearest of friends. They enjoyed traveling, reading taking walks together and being with their family. They shared 54 years of wedded happiness. Evelyn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Federal Way 6th Ward. She will be greatly missed by her husband Philip; sons Phil and Mark, daughters Dianne and Linda, their spouses Chris and Sharlene; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and her many friends. Evelyn will always be remembered as a kind and loving person, completely selfless in her service to family and friends. A true follower of the Savior Jesus Christ. We know she has gone to her Eternal reward and rest. We will forever honor her. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 28616 - 48th Avenue South, Federal Way at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 15. Viewing will be 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Arrangements by Yahn & Son Funeral Home, Auburn.
