In Memory

Odell Stoor - Class of 1935

Roy Odell Stoor was born in Williamsburg, Idaho, to Mildred Elsie Stanley and Roy Robert Stoor on July 31, 1917. Ruth Julia Oberg was born on January 9, 1928, in Soda Springs, Idaho, to Hulda Sophia Enlund and Matt Sidback Oberg.  He died September 1, 2000 in Salt Lake City.

They are the loving parents of six children: Julia (Bill) Rasmussen of Pocatello, Idaho; Sharon (Mike) McGuire of Rocklin, California; Leroy Stoor of Orem, Utah; Adell (Zane) Arvidson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Sue (Wayne) Whiting of Green Bay, Wisconsin; and Bruce (Wendy) Stoor of Soda Springs, Idaho.

They are the devoted grandparents of fifteen: John, Scott, Craig, Julie and Amy Snelders; Kevin McGuire; Elise and Corrine Arvidson; Derrick, Brandon and Brianna Whiting; and Kelsie, Travis, Amber and Hailey Stoor; and great-grandparents of three, John Paul, Millie and Max Snelders.

They treasured their relationships with Odell's brothers, sister and their families, Ellis (Cleone) Stoor of South Jordan, Utah; Bill (Dorothy) Stoor of Murray, Utah; Marie (Dick) Park of Bountiful, Utah; and Marvin Stanley Stoor, who preceded them in death.

Odell and Ruth filled their lives with family, friends and serving others. For years Ruth served the community as postmistress, while Odell worked for the State Highway Department. Together they owned and operated the Wayan Cash Store. In addition to serving in many positions in the LDS Church, they fulfilled a mission in Rapid City, South Dakota. Upon their return, they were called to serve in the Logan, Utah, Temple.

Grays Lake was always their home, and they were always at home in their community. Their home was open to everyone. No one was a stranger, and no one in need was turned away.

They enjoyed games and parties, camping, hunting trips, quilting bees, family vacations, visiting and sharing with neighbors, berry picking and adding to the neighbors' wood pile. The holidays were most important. Thanksgiving was a time for extended family to join together to find the perfect Christmas tree with beds on the floor and food galore. Swedish bread was Ruth's traditional gift at Christmas.

Their final days found them doing the things they enjoyed the most, visiting and playing games with family, attending the temple and sharing their testimonies and seeing another grandson (Brandon) enter the Missionary Training Center.

Odell died in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 1, 2000, hours after his beloved wife Ruth departed on August 31, 2000.

We love you and will miss you.
