Gladys Hughes (Swenson) - Class of 1934

Gladys Hughes Swenson, 69, died Saturday morning in Montpelier following an extended illness.

She was born June 27, 1916, in Montpelier, to William Henry and Johanna Binz Hughes.

She married Willis H. "Slim" Swenson in 1934. He died July 16, 1975.

She was a member of the LDS Church, Business and Professional Women's Organization, and past member of the Auxiliary of Lady Firemen. She was employed at M.H. King Company and First Security Bank in Montpelier. She enjoyed candy making, sewing, embroidery, camping and going on picnics in the nearby canyons. She was also an avid reader.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Forrest (Virginia) Jacobsen, Montpelier; Mrs. Robert (Cathlene) Ellsworth, Manila, Utah; one brother, Richard W. Hughes, Montpelier, one sister, Mrs. C.N. (Helen) Sorensen, Montpelier; 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy R. Erhart, and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Matthews Mortuary Chapel. Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
