Eldon Hauck - Class of 1933

Eldon Hauck, 92, of Anaheim, California, was married to Margaret "Peggy" Hauck for 61 years. He was a graduate of Utah State, Logan in 1937; Teaching Fellow, Dept. of Physical Education, UCLA, 1938-1939 earning General Secondary Credential for California. He was a teacher and coach at Fremont Junior High, Anaheim, with responsibilities for science and physical education in the Anaheim Elementary School District as a supervisor until World War II at which time he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. He attended Officer's Candidate School in Miami Beach, Florida. He was commissioned 2d Lt. in March of 1943 and assigned to Santa Ana Army Air Base, CA where he organized cadet intersquadron athletics: speedball, softball, basketball, and track for 4000 cadets before becoming base athletic officer in charge of enlisted physical training program and athletics. After the war, he remained in reserve status with U.S. Air Force until retirement as Lt. Colonel in 1974. He returned to Fremont Jr. High as a coach and a teacher of math and science until 1954. From 1954 -1955 he took a sabbatical leave and moved with his family to Seattle, WA, where he attended the University of WA and received his Masters Degree. From 1955-1967 he was director and consultant in Anaheim City School District, responsible for physical education, public relations, safety, civil defense, and health programs for 22,000 pupils, 725 teachers in 22 schools. From 1967 until 1970, when he retired at the age of 55, he was a 6th grade teacher in Anaheim. After retirement, he and Peggy enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and parts of Mexico, Canada, and Europe. He is survived by his 3 children, Pam Peil and her husband Louie of Anaheim, CA, Dave Hauck and his wife, Marlene of Oroville, CA, and Trish Bousquet and her husband Mike of Yorba Linda, CA; nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were held Feb 2, 2007 at Hilgenfeld Mortuary, Anaheim with graveside services following at Anaheim Cemetery. (The Orange County Register Jan 30, 2007)
