Harold Hess - Class of 1926

Harold G. Hess, 74, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 1983 in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier of a sudden heart attack. He was born Jan. 3, 1909 in Georgetown to Harrison and Emma Smart Hess. He moved to Montpelier at an early age. He attended Idaho State College and Utah State University, where he graduated with a degree in education. He married Helen Edwards Aug. 29, 1932 in Salt Lake City. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He taught school in Grace, Nounan, Bern, Montpelier, Wardboro and Alexander. He worked for Zions Wholesale Grocery Company for 15 years and worked as an agent for Continental Oil Company for 25 years. He retired in Nov. of 1973. He was a member of the LDS Church. He is survived by his wife of Montpelier; a daughter, Mrs. Robert W. (Merna) Gillespie, Springer, N.M.; a son, Herold Hess, Bountiful, Utah; eight grandchildren; a brother, Gene Hess, Pocatello; a step-mother, Rowean Hess, and a step-sister, Mrs. Floyd (LaRee) Bird, both of Montpelier. Funeral services were Friday, Sept, 23 at 1 p.m. in the Montpelier Stake Center. Burial was in the Montpelier City Cemetery.
