Leon Jewett - Class of 1924

Victor Leon Jewett was the 4th child born to John Samuel and Sarah Jane Skinner Jewett. He was born June 8, 1903, in Montpelier, Bear Lake County, Idaho. He had three older brothers and two younger brothers.

His childhood was spent in Bear Lake Valley where there were always good places for fishing and hunting. He enjoyed the out-of-doors. His schooling took place in Montpelier, Idaho. He went by his middle name, Leon.

He met Clara Isebell Taylor from nearby Paris, Idaho, and they married Oct. 24, 1928 in the Logan Temple. They lived in Montpelier for a time, but Leon's work took them to other places in Idaho. He worked for Idaho Power in Pocatello, Hailey, American Falls, and finally Twin Falls.

The couple were blessed with three children: Max Leon born Oct. 6, 1930 in Pocatello, Bannock, Idaho; Mary Ann born Nov. 9, 1931 in Pocatello; and Nancy Lee born Sept. 18, 1941 in American Falls, Power County, Idaho.

He was a responsible and caring husband and father, and spent time with his son hunting and fishing. It was a sad day for him when his son, Max, died from extreme sugar diabetes in December of 1963. He was 33 years old and married.

Leon died Jan 1, 1966 in Blackfoot, Bingham County, Idaho. Funeral services were held in the Twin Falls Eighth LDS Ward Jan. 5, 1966 with Bishop A. E. Larson officiating. He was then interred in the Twin Falls Cemetery.

He left a grieving wife and two daughters, who missed him. He was always kind and gentle with his family members
