Ben E. Phelps, 60, collapsed and died Tuesday, December 5, 1972 while assisting a motorist to move his car on a snow covered street in Portland, Oregon.  Mr. Phelps was born in Montpelier September 24, 1910, who spent his youth in Montpelier, was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Phelps and a brother of Clyde Phelps. He married Mable Margaret Merrill August 24, 1932 in Elko, Nevada.  An employee at Wilamette Iron and Steel Plant, He was alone enroute to his home during the time a two inch snow cover was fouling traffic.  Funeral arrangements are pending.
