Grant Loertscher - Class of 1972

Grant John Loertscher, 56, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010, at the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Grant was born on December 25, 1953, in Montpelier, Idaho,to Ernest and Louise Loertscher.

Grant attended schools in Montpelier and graduated from Bear Lake High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Armed Forces and served in Germany during the Vietnam War. After returning home he married the love of his life, Teresa Teuscher, on January 10, 1976. They made their home in the Bear Lake Valley and raised four children.

Shortly after getting married, Grant took a job with the city of Montpelier and then moved his family out to Geneva to ranch. He worked in Kemmerer and Soda Springs in the mining industry, but for most of his life he was a rancher and did excavation. The family moved back and forth from Montpelier to Geneva over the years, and his family is currently residing in Montpelier.

Grant was a true cowboy. He loved being outside, and riding his horse in the mountains. He was a man of many talents, and truly loved working with backhoes and doing excavation. He had many hobbies, which included looking for fossils, having found very rare fossils of dinosaurs in the Bear Lake Valley.

Grant never passed up a chance to help someone in need. He loved his family and showed them his love every single day. Teresa and Grant were best friends, and inseparable.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Loertscher; and one sister, Lois Granato.
