Barton Hayes - Class of 1972

Barton W. Hayes, 46, of Montpelier, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2000, at Bannock Regional Medical Center Pocatello.

He was born July 6, 1954, in Montpelier, the son of Weston and Barbara Hayes. After leaving high school, he left to serve his country, and enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his four years, he was stationed in Germany.

On February 25, 1975, he married Teresa Black Hayes Hailstone. During their nine-year marriage, they had a daughter, Regan. He was currently married to Theresa Mae Stone Hayes, and during their 16-year marriage they had a son, Chantry.

For the past 25 years he worked in Kemmerer, Wyo., as a truck driver in the coal mine. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and Mountain Man activities. He spent his free time doing his favorite hobby, looking for arrowheads, and taking care of his home. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Barton is survived by his wife of 16 years, Theresa, of Montpelier; daughter, Regan T.H. Newberry of Twin Falls; son, Chantry Talon Hayes of Montpelier; and stepdaughter, Ashley Lynn Kratzberg of Canyon City, Colo.; Barton's mother and father, Barbara and Weston Hayes of Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Laura Adams of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; nephew, Skyler Dale Anderson of Tucson, Ariz.; grandparents, Alfred and LaWana Swa of Montpelier. Barton was preceded in death by his grandparents Lyle and Mildred Hayes, and by his grandson, Trenton Cantrell Hayes.

Cremation will take place under the direction of Matthews Mortuary in Montpelier. A wake is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2000, at the Allred Center in Montpelier.

The family requests that instead of flowers, a trust fund will be set up for Chantry at the Tri-State Bank (Zions Bank) in Montpelier.
