In Memory

Don Eborn - Class of 1971

Don Budge Eborn, 58, passed away on Feb. 14, from a heart attack while ice fishing on Hebgen Lake in Montana. Don died the way he lived… enjoying his passion for the outdoors.

Don was born to Worth and Nina Eborn in Paris on Sept. 16 1953 – the fourth of six children. He served an LDS mission in Holland and went on to teach Dutch at the Rick’s College MTC for three years. Shortly after returning home from his mission, Don met and married the love of his life, Annette Wilson, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home together in Rexburg where they raised their four children.

Don spent his career with Madison County Fire and Emergency Services, working as an EMT and paramedic before returning to school to get his nursing degree. He then spent the next twenty years splitting his time between the ambulance and the emergency room at Madison Memorial Hospital. Don’s easy-going manner and composure under pressure helped his patients and coworkers to feel calm in emergencies. After 33 years with the ambulance service, Don finally retired giving him even more time to pursue his passions for all things outdoors.

Don was an avid hunter, fisherman, and mountain man. He was a superb black-powder marksman who repeatedly won mountain man rendezvous competitions and built his own muzzle-loaders. Don could sniff out huckleberry patches on a mountainside by simply smelling the air from the window of his truck and his huckleberry jams, syrups and cheesecakes were instant favorites to anyone who tasted them. He fostered an appreciation of nature in all those who knew him well, but especially in his children and grandchildren.

Don Eborn was thoughtful and kind and generous. He offered time and resources to anyone in need, he gave away his fresh catch to many, and through his work – he helped save hundreds of lives. But his family will miss him for the little things – the playful jests, the quirky sayings, his deep base voice singing his favorite country songs, his quick wit, his delicious breakfasts, his irreverent sense of humor, the lost moments with grandchildren… his presence.

Don is survived by wife, Annette Eborn, children; Trevr Eborn (Jessica), Brian Eborn, Taya Sigg (Ben), and Brent Eborn (Ashlie), five grandchildren and his siblings, Vicki Smith, Robert Eborn, Deena Tucker, Barbara Hodges, and Glen Eborn. He is preceded in death by his parents Nina and Worth Eborn and father-in-law Lamar Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 20th at the Rexburg LDS South Stake Center, 2041 West 5200 South. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the stake center prior to services.
