Betty M. Perkins Elwin, 85, a longtime resident of Hoquiam, Washington died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at her home.  Mrs. Elwin was born June 14, 1924 in Montpelier to Harvey B. and Gertrude F. (Maguire) Perkins.  She was raised in Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1942.  On October 10, 1946 she and James N. Elwin were married in Montpelier.  The couple moved to Hoquiam where they resided until moving in August 2001 to Lacey, Washington.  She worked as an optometric assistant in Aberdeen, Idaho for Dr. Lawrence B. Ellison until retiring at the age of 59.  She is survived by two sons, a daughter and seven grandchildren.  A memorial service will be held at the Coleman Mortuary Chapel in Hoquiam.
