Esma Berrey (Parker) - Class of 1926

Esma Berrey Parker, age 96, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2003, in Provo, Utah. She had moved to Utah to be close to her son following the death of her husband, J. Ross Parker, in September 1995.

Asenath Esma Berrey was born on July 20, 1907, in Wardboro, Idaho, to Mary Elizabeth Humpherys and John Alfonzo Berrey. She was the third of 10 living children. Esma was educated in the elementary and secondary schools in Bear Lake County and at Albion Normal School in Albion, Idaho, Brigham Young University and Utah State University. Esma taught elementary school for 40 years in Bennington, Georgetown and Montpelier. She retired in 1972. Esma loved children and had a particular gift for teaching reading.

She married Jared Ross Parker in Salt Lake City on November 8, 1935. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple on July 17,1936.

Esma was active in the LDS Church. She had a strong testimony of prayer and served in varied callings throughout her life. She and Ross served together as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple for 11 1/2 years prior to Ross' death.

Esma is survived by her son, Ross Berrey Parker, and daughter-in-law, Linda; grandchildren, Lisa Dien (Jerod) Stutsman, Devin Kenneth (Nicole) Parker, Chad Anthony Parker, Brandi Lyn (George) Seamon, Cameron David Parker; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Madison Parker and Jacob Seamon. She is also survived by one brother, David L. Berrey, and one sister, Jean Maughan.

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 12, 2003, at noon in the Bennington Ward Chapel, where friends may call from10:30 until 11:45 a.m. Internment will be in the family plot at the Bennington Cemetery.
