Lawrence Payne - Class of 1954

Former Bear Lake resident Lawrence T. Payne died October 9, 2001 at his home in Salt Lake City from metastatic lung cancer.  First born son of Truman and Nedra Payne, he was born May 15, 1935 in Bloomington, Idaho.  His childhood was spent in Bloomington as well as in Montpelier where he graduated from Montpelier High School in 1954 after taking some course-work at the state school for the deaf in Gooding, Idaho.  He attended Idaho State University and learned the newspaper printing trade.  He married the love of his life, Kathy Satterlee in Ogden in 1967. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordon River Temple in 1998. He worked 14 years at the Post Register in Idaho Falls followed by 26 years at the Salt Lake Tribune.  His hobbies included restoring antique cars, fishing and boating.  He is survived by his wife, Kathy along with two daughters.  Funeral services were held at the South Cottonwood Ward in Salt Lake City followed by interment at the Murray, Utah City Cemetery.
