Byron Nelson - Class of 1930

Byron C. Nelson, 43, prominent high school and BYU athlete and purchasing agent for Pacific States Cast Iron Pipe Company of Provo, died at Cedar City, Utah Sunday, May 1954  of injuries sustained the day before in an automobile collision near Beaver, Utah.  A three sport letterman in Montpelier High School, he was a member of the 1929-30 championship football and basketball teams and won an all-state berth in basketball.  He continued his studies and graduated from BYU where he became an all-conference center in basketball.  He also played professional basketball and continued work in LDS mutual athletics.  Byron was born June 15, 1910 in Montpelier the son of Howard and Gladys Nelson Huff.  Following the death of his mother he and three brothers were adopted by his grandparents.  He is survived by his widow along with two sons and one daughter.  Funeral was held in Provo and the interment was in the Provo Burial Park.
