Wilbur Smith - Class of 1932

Wilbur Ellis Smith, 57, died December 10, 1970 in the Bear Lake Memorial Hospital following a lingering illness. He was born March 2, 1913 in Montpelier to the late Harry L. Smith and Clara Bienz Smith.  Except for short intervals he resided in Montpelier all his life attending elementary schools and graduating from Montpelier High School where he excelled as an athlete.  A veteran of World War II he held the rank of sergeant in the 349th Construction Group of an Engineer Battalion.  He was a brakeman on the Union Pacific Railroad and later a truck driver and mechanic.  He was a member of the LDS Church.  He is survived by two sons, a daughter and three grandchildren.  Services were held in the Montpelier Fourth Ward Chapel.  Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
