Ray W. Root, 61, died August 2, 1984 in a West Valley Hospital in Salt Lake City.  He was born January 1, 1923 in Pocatello to Roy Bronson Root and Mabel Frances Potter Root.  He married Pauline Proulx August 17, 1947 in Salt Lake City.  He retired from the Utah State Liquor Commission in 1982.  He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Catholic Church.  He was a former resident of Montpelier, was active in all athletic activities and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1941.  He obtained a BS degree at the University of Utah.  Survivors include a son, a daughter and three grandchildren.  Prayer services were held at the Deseret Mortuary along with a Mass in St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
