Dean Kunz - Class of 1939

Dean T. Kunz, 75, of Ririe died of heart complications. Dean was born April 4, 1921 at Bern the son of Able Chester Kunz and Hattie Mae Tingey Kunz.  Dean grew up and attended schools in Bern and Montpelier and graduated from Montpelier High School.  Dean attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City for one year.  He Married Laura Alice Thompson May 1, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  Dean was an active member of the LDS Church.  He served a mission to the Central States Mission.  He served as Bishop of the Bern Ward, on the High Council in the Montpelier Stake and as an Assistant Group Leader in the Perry Ward High Priest Group.  He served in the European theatre with the US Army during World War II.  He fought in the battle of the bulge and on the beaches of Normandy.  Dean owned and operated a cattle ranch in Bear Lake County for 30 years.  He taught Horsemanship at Ricks College in Rexburg.  He was an active member and judge in the American Quarter Horse Association and the National Cutting Horse Association.  He travelled extensively throughout the US performing and judging horses.  He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters along with 16 grandchildren.  Funeral services were held January 11 at the Perry Ward LDS Chapel in Ririe.  Interment was in the Bern Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel of Rigby.
