Helen Gertrude Hughes Sorensen, 74, passed away Monday June 16, 1997 at the Logan Regional Hospital following a lingering illness.  She was born November 29, 1922 in Montpelier to William Henry and Johanna Bienz Hughes being the youngest of three children.  She was reared and educated in Montpelier graduating from Montpelier High School in 1940.  Following graduation she was a telephone operator for Mountain States Telephone Co. later being promoted to chief operator.  She later accepted employment with First Security Bank.  Following her marriage to Clarence N. "Stoney" Sorensen July 26, 1968 in Paris she continued to work for First Security until the employment of her husband, a railroader, took them to Pocatello.  She enjoyed bowling and gardening but especially loved fishing and camping.  She was a member of the LDS Church.  Funeral services were held Thursday June 19 in the Matthews Mortuary Chapel.  Interment was in the Montpelier Cemetery.
