Kathryn Moore (Barrett) - Class of 1928

Kathryn (Kay) Elizabeth Moore Barrett, 88, passed away Saturday, March 27 in Salt Lake City. Kay was born May 24, 1910 in Eagle Grove, Ia. to John Clair and Stella Switzer Moore. She came with her parents to Montpelier at a young age. She graduated from Montpelier High School and attended one year of business school.

She married A Clair Barrett Dec 3, 1932 in Randolph.  Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple.  Clair passed away Sep 7, 1980.

During WWII she worked for the Union Pacific Railroad in Montpelier as a secretary while Clair served in the US navy. With the money she saved they purchased Williams Floral. Together with her husband they operated Barrett Floral and Barrett Insurance Agency for 30 years. Kay served as secretary of the Northwest Floral Association for many years.
 
She and her husband were very active in the community.  Kay was an active member of the LDS Church.  She had served in the Mutual presidency and the Relief Society presidency and had worked in the name extraction program for 10 years. Kay is survived by two daughters, Beverly and Michael Wagreich of Salt Lake City and Mary Ann and Jim Davenport of Tucson, Az;  three granddaughters, one grandson and eight great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant daughter, Patricia Jean.
 
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31 at 11 am in the Montpelier First Ward Chapel at 485 S. 7th St where friends may call that morning from 10 am until time of the service.  Burial will be in the Montpelier Cemetery with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary.
