Bruce Smart - Class of 1946

Our much-loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, J. Bruce Smart, 86, passed away on January 8, 2015 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born May 28, 1928 in Logan Canyon Utah, the son of Lyman and Juanita Winters Smart. He grew up in Montpelier Idaho, served in the U.S. Navy and attended Idaho State University. He was employed at Western Paper Company in Salt Lake City for 36 years. He married his childhood sweetheart Dorothy Ruth Jensen on June 8, 1948 in the Logan Utah Temple. They shared 66 wonderful years together.
 
Bruce loved his family and neighbors, made friends wherever he went and was a great storyteller. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, loved the scriptures and was an avid student of the Gospel. He loved serving the Lord and especially teaching the Gospel. He served in many capacities including Bishop, High Councilor, Counselor in a Stake Presidency and Mission President in the England Leeds Mission from 1978 to 1981. He was ordained in 1975 and served as Patriarch in the Bountiful Utah Heights Stake.
 
Bruce is survived by his wife Dorothy, son John, daughter Krista Haws (Rich), son Doug, son Steve (Karen, deceased), daughter Rebecca Stuart (Ken), 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Darlene Smart (Ross, deceased), brother Grant (Lucille), and sister Ruth Anne Hymas (Dee). He was preceded in death by brothers Lyman and Ross Smart, sister-in-law Arlene Smart, daughter-in-law Karen Smart and grandson Dustin Haws.
 
Family and friends are invited to greet the family at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah on Thursday, January 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.. Services will be held at the Bountiful 16th Ward, 720 East 550 North, Bountiful, Utah on Friday, January 16 at 12:30 p.m.. Family and friends may also pay respect prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.. Interment will be at the City Cemetery in Montpelier, Idaho. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com
