In Memory

Jill Rich (Burgoyne) - Class of 1970

Jill Rich Burgoyne of Bountiful, Utah passed away in Murray at the Intermountain Health Care Center surrounded by her family.

She was born in Logan, Utah, on August 26, 1952, the third of three children born to William J. Rich and Dixie Pope Rich. Her birthday was shared by her father and older brother. She fondly remembers those birthday celebrations as the day with three cakes.

She grew up in Paris, Idaho, where she attended school and graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1970. She also attended Ricks College.

Jill was musically inclined and as a teenager led the singing in Sunday School, learned to play the piano, performed in the high school band, and eventually taught piano lessons.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 1970 and underwent a regimen of treatment for two years. Because of that treatment she would eventually lose the use of one arm. She was later diagnosed with breast cancer. The residual effects of her cancer treatment would eventually claim her life. She was a woman of courage and lived through her trials without complaint.

She married her high school sweetheart Hal Burgoyne on October 19, 1971, in the Logan Temple. She spent her early married years in Pocatello, Boise, Salt Lake, and Bountiful. In later years she spent a two year stint in California following her husband's employment. Her son Chad was born in 1974.

Over the years she sold Avon, worked for JC Penney, and eventually worked several years for the law firm of Strong and Hanni of Salt Lake where she had an enjoyable association with coworkers and took pride and satisfaction in her job. She worked one-handed but always pulled her weight.

Jill was actively involved in the LDS church and served in numerous callings. She loved family history and compiled comprehensive volumes summarizing generations of ancestors. She was an example to all.
After her husband Hal passed away in 2008, she continued to be actively involved with her work, church, family, and grandchildren. In spite of increasing health concerns she was able to travel with her good friend, and sister-in-law, Bonnie. They developed a special bond and friendship as they spent time together.

Jill was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her only son, Chad (Jennifer) of Magna; by her parents, Bill and Dixie Rich (Paris); brothers Brad Rich (Erica) Salt Lake; Kirk Rich (Debra) Paris; four grandchildren (Eric, Zachary, Logan and Riley); one granddaughter-in-law (Amanda), great granddaughter (Klara), and numerous nieces and nephews.
