Joy Alleman - Class of 1940

Joy George Alleman was born on May 9, 1922 in Bern, Idaho to George Alleman, Jr. and Bertha Amacher. Upon graduation from Montpelier High School he enlisted in the Army-Air Corps and served as pilot during World War II. On D-Day he and his crew dropped paratroopers over France. At the end of the war Joy received a call to serve a mission for the LDS church in French-speaking Europe. After his mission he married Jean Oakey on June 14, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. Following their wedding they lived in Logan where Joy attended and graduated from USU. For one year he taught high school in Riverside, CA; then reenlisted as an officer in the Air Force. Upon his retirement from the military they moved to Dingle. Joy loved flying, woodworking, hunting, camping, and traveling. He was a life-long member of the LDS church and served for over ten years as a bishop of the Dingle Ward. He later worked with his wife in the Swiss LDS Temple and for many years in the Logan LDS Temple. He is a beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be remembered for his hard work, courage, integrity, generosity, and service to others. He is preceded in death by his wife Jean, and is survived by his three children; Debra (Woodinville, WA), Conrad (Francis, UT) and Brian (Seattle, WA); their families, including five grandchildren; and six nieces and one nephew. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 17th at 11 am in the Dingle LDS chapel, with a viewing preceding from 9-10:45 am. A viewing will also be held in Montpelier at Matthews Mortuary on Thursday, October 16th from 6-8 pm. Burial will be in the Dingle Cemetery.Joy George Alleman
