Dale Ream - Class of 1951

Dr. Winston Dale Ream ,47, a physician at St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City,  died Saturday. Dec 27, 1980, in Salt Lake City. He  was born on March 12, 1933 to John Rodney and Norma Ida Volker Ream. He married Elanor Setsuko Kondo in Grand Junction. Colo., August 28. 1958, and she survived him in death. He attended schools in Dingle and graduated from Montpelier High School as valedictorian of his class and student body president in 1951. He served a mission to East Germany for 32 months. Following his mission he was involved in a serious ranch accident which left him in a paraplegic condition. He attended BYU and USU and graduated from Stanford Medical School with an M.D. in 1966. He interned at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and completed residency at Stanford University Hospital and the Palo Alto Veterans' Hospital Specializing in physical and rehabilitation medicine. He was the first student to enter Stanford as a paraplegic. Dr Ream developed several electectronic devices for his patients and was president and co-owner of Sound•Lab Stereo. He served on several Utah committees for the benefit of the physically disabled and was chairman of the Rehabilitation Committee at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. He was involved with the Miss Utah Wheelchair Pageant and enjoyed photography.

He is survived by his widow, Salt Lake City; mother, Dingle; a brother, John R. Jr , Salt Lake City; and three sisters, Mrs. Shelby (Denise) Wahley, Denver, Mrs. Floyd (Joan) Bunderson.Montpelier, and Elizabeth Ream, Salt Lake City. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Valley View Fourth LDS Ward. Entombment was Wednesday in the Ream family crypt in Dingle.
