Cyril Roberts - Class of 1937

Cyril Benjamin Roberts, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012, at his home in Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community. He was under the care of his family and Encompass Hospice.

Cyril was born September 11, 1918, in Lanark to Benjamin Roberts and Amy Josephine Sorensen Roberts. He grew up and attended schools in Lanark, then graduated from Bear Lake High School in Montpelier.

He honorably served four and a half years in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the South Pacific.

On March 6, 1942, he married Violet Bartschi in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where he worked as a state police officer, then owned and operated a gas station. He later worked as a postal clerk until his retirement.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cyril served in the Ward Bishopric, on the Stake High Council, in scouting and as a Scoutmaster, home teacher and as a temple worker for 23 years. He and Violet served as full-time missionaries in the Mississippi, Jackson, Mission.

He enjoyed auto mechanics, carpentry, flower gardening, riding his ATV and camping with his family. His entire life was dedicated to serving family, friends and neighbors.

Cyril is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Violet of Idaho Falls; sons, DeLoy (Lorna) Roberts of Idaho Falls, Dennis (Shanna) Roberts of Salt Lake City and Bruce (Carol) Roberts of Ammon; daughter, Joyce (Bruce) Loveland of Boise, currently serving a full-time mission at the Heber Valley Camp in Heber City, Utah; 24 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brent Roberts; a brother, Lester Roberts; and five sisters, Hilda, Cerelda, Marie, LaPriel and Geniel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Idaho Falls LDS 11th Ward, 1235 Juniper Drive in Idaho Falls, with Bishop Tom Barker officiating. Burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery.
