Bryant Robison - Class of 1944

Milton Bryant Robison, 83, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Bear Lake Skilled Nursing Facility in Montpelier, Idaho. He was born September 18, 1925, at Conda, Idaho, the fifth child of Milton Holmes and Idella Weaver Robison. 

As a child he lived in Conda, Georgetown, and Bennington. His mother, Idella, died when he was four years old from spinal meningitis along with Bryant's younger brother and three members of the extended family. 

He attended elementary school in Georgetown and Bennington. He attended Montpelier High School and enlisted in the Navy four days before his eighteenth birthday on September 14, 1943. He completed boot training at Farragut, Idaho, and was assigned to the USS Hoggatt Bay. He served aboard this aircraft carrier from April 1, 1944, to March 27, 1946. 

Bryant married Joyce Marie Hayes Wilde in Bennington on May 23, 1947. Later they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Bennington and were blessed with four children. 

He operated a large dairy farm, drove school bus and worked as a church custodian. During his lifetime he was also employed by Leefe Chemical near Sage, Wyoming, San Francisco Chemical in Montpelier Canyon, El Paso Gas north of Soda Springs and Central Farmers in Georgetown Canyon. He was also a talented welder. 

Bryant was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including: MIA Dance Director, MIA Counselor and Home Teacher. He served in the Sunday School Superintendency and as Bishop's Counselor. He and Joyce also served as temple workers in the Logan LDS Temple for three years. 

Bryant loved music and played the harmonica well. He enjoyed singing and played the piano a little by ear. He wrote delightful poetry and enjoyed reading. Bryant and Joyce were wonderful dancers and brought joy to others through this talent. Bryant will be remembered for his gentle, loving nature and desire to choose right. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Belva Robison, Lula (William) Crane, Opal Hart (Eugene) Manwaring, Donna (Earl) Wilcox, brother, Howard Robison, son, Lewis Eugene, daughter, Jacqueline Wilde Robison and greatgranddaughter, Mariah Clogston. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, and children, Clayton (Susan) Robison and Jocelyn (Kevin) Nield, both of Bennington and Rozanna (Scott) Shaw of Lyman, Wyoming. He also leaves behind a sister, Glenavere (James) McGee of Tempe, Arizona, a daughter-in-law, Carol (Lewis-deceased) Robison McDonald of Emmett, Idaho, 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 7, at 1 p.m. in the Bennington LDS Chapel with Bishop John Tippets conducting. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Matthews Mortuary and on Thursday at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. The interment will be in the Bennington Cemetery where military rites will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
