Gloria Nield (Shannon) - Class of 1951

Gloria M. Nield Shannon, 79, passed away surrounded by the love of her family in Pocatello, Monday afternoon, December 6, 2010. She was born November 20, 1931 in Montpelier, Idaho to William E. and Viola Laughter Nield. Gloria was the third eldest of 10 children. She graduated from Montpelier High School.

She married the love of her life, Albert Ronald Shannon, on December 16, 1949 in Soda Springs, Idaho. They had been married for 53 years when he preceded her in death in November 2002.

She worked as a loan officer at the Pocatello Teachers Federal Credit Union until retirement. Gloria was very active in the Holy Spirit Catholic Community. She was Communion Minister and helped with shut-ins. She loved being there for other and her family. One of her favorite activities was fishing with her sons. She also enjoyed her water aerobics,Monday through Friday, faithfully, rain or shine. She did word search puzzles daily, her most recent having a Christmas theme. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas with her family.

Gloria is survived by 2 children, Julie (Gary) Toop and Mike (Deanna) Shannon; 5 grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Doyle, Candice Hardman, Christina Hardman, Corey (Janine) Shannon, and Kellie Shannon; 3 step grandchildren, Danielle (Shaun) Toop, Brian (Jamie) Toop, Chris (Angie) Toop; 9 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Elva) Nield and Tom (Karen) Nield, 3 sisters, Carol Erickson, Belva (Alan) Bagley, and Maxine (Chris) Henderson; and other close sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. 
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Edward Shannon; 3 brothers, Max, Carl and Terry Nield; and a sister, Lanette Roberts.

Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Holy Spirit Catholic Community, St. Anthony Chapel, 524 N. 7th Ave., Pocatello, with Father Chase Hasenoehrl, celebrant.
A Rosary will be held Friday evening at 7:00 pm in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello.
