Barbara Kunz (Otteson) - Class of 1949

Barbara Ann Kunz was the second daughter of seven children born to George Sydney and Edith Bills Kunz. Her parents taught her the value of hard work, something she perfected during her sojourn in this earthly sphere.

Barbara grew up in Montpelier, Idaho Falls, and Bern, Idaho, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1949. She worked in Montpelier for Dr. Spencer Hess a a dental assistant, and for Dr. Eugene H. Wray as an oral surgical assistant. She was a manager of Mr. Soapy's Car Wash and Convenience Mart and was employed at Bagelby's as a prep cook. She took great pride in her work performance and gave any task her very best effort. Her appearance was always impeccable with never a hair out of place as she retained the beautiful red hair of her youth throughout her life. 

On September 18, 1950, Barbara married Wilbur Don Watson and they had one daughter, Ann Louise. They were later divorced. On June 7, 1958, she married Don Charles Otteson. They had one son, Mark Don. Both Wilbur and Don preceded her in death. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was an expert at making homemade chocolates. Barbara was featured as a gift wrapping instructor by Hallmark stores. Her skills were extraordinary. Barbara enjoyed singing and was a member of the Pocatello Chapter of Sweet Adelines where she sang lead. She loved music and enjoyed listening to her son Mark play his guitar and sing.

She died on May 24, 2003 in Pocatello, Idaho. She was survived by her daughter Ann (Phill) Williams, a son Mark (Lori) Otteson; five of her six siblings, Betty Jo Hyman, Gary George Kunz, Geraldine, Kent and Roger; and by granchildren Rachael Ann, Haylee Jo and Markki DawnShe was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Douglas Ray Kunz, who died as an infant. Funeral services were held on May 29, 2003 in Pocatello, Idaho followed by interment in that city.
